Andreas Maaninka’s journey into the world of visual effects began in Stockholm, where a fascination with images and storytelling led to his first remote project with Persistence of Vision. That early spark soon took him to London, where he joined the team at Framestore-CFC and contributed to iconic films like The Golden Compass (2007) and The Dark Knight (2008).
From there, he traveled to New Zealand to join Weta Digital, diving deep into the world of Avatar (2009) and its groundbreaking visuals. Japan came next, where at Polygon Pictures he helped build the VFX team and pipeline for Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Eventually, Vancouver became home. At studios like Digital Domain, Double Negative, Sony Pictures Imageworks, and MPC, Andreas worked on everything from X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017) to Star Trek Beyond (2016) and Detective Pikachu (2019).
After years inside major studios, Andreas founded Oasis VFX to get closer to the heart of filmmaking—collaborating directly with production teams from the earliest stages. With a focus on clarity, communication, and creativity, Oasis was built to help directors and producers weave complex visual effects into their stories with confidence and artistry.
Oasis VFX works with top agencies like ArtJail and Framestore to craft high-end VFX for commercials and films, ensuring seamless integration from set to screen. We love working with directors, producers, and post teams who value collaboration, clarity, and craft.
We know VFX can feel overwhelming—especially if it’s your first time integrating it into a production. That’s why we offer early-stage consulting to help you make smart, informed decisions before the cameras roll.
Whether you’re unsure how to budget for visual effects, need help scoping shots, or just want to talk through what’s actually possible—we’re happy to guide you through it. No commitments, just clarity.
“Andreas was great to work with. Super friendly and on the ball. You can really tell that he enjoys what he does. He was our on-set VFX supervisor for a TD commercial shoot in Serbia that required lots of complex VFX. As always happens, we had plenty of unforeseen issues due to weather and last minute changes that required us to lean on Andreas’ experise. He’s a wealth of knowledge and it really helped reassure the team that we could indeed “fix it in post” (and probably make it better!).”

“Working with Andreas is, in very few words, “Peace of Mind”. On the dozen or so projects we’ve hired Andreas for in the past year, he’s been extremely communicative, collaborative, and client friendly. His wealth of experience and passion for playing an important part in making pretty pictures really stands out.”
“Working with Andreas is always a pleasure. It’s great to have the creative freedom to explore ideas directly on set — and he’s the perfect partner in crime for that. He knows exactly what’s needed for the final result to look and work flawlessly, while still giving us enough space to experiment and play.”
“We’ve worked with many supervisors around the world, but working with Andreas stands out. He is incredibly experienced as an artist, a show supervisor and also on set, so he understands the entire process intimately. He is very thorough and detail oriented, devising plans, communicating very well and executing efficiently while pivoting to handle the inevitable curveballs.
Andreas is also a people person. He builds rapport with everyone on set quickly and positively, in between hustling for ever more reference or scans, seizing any window of opportunity. Crew really appreciate someone who understands their challenges and works with them, which Andreas certainly does.
Andreas went above and beyond for us and we continue to benefit from his abilities on additional projects. I look forward to working with him each time, as there is a trust borne through experience.”
Andreas has 20+ years of VFX experience, blending creative vision with technical expertise.
✨On-Set VFX Supervisor means he’s the one making sure all the visual effects magic starts right on set. Everything has to line up perfectly for the post-production team later—no pressure!
See all that geeky gear he’s wearing? That’s part of the job.
